Power sliding the Driver's Ed. Departments car is not a good idea but I only did what the teacher told us to do. #1 get up to speed, 2. brake hard and 3. stop just short of the cones on the driving course. Well, everybody knows you have to turn left to go faster except for Coach Scull. And that's exactly what I did, I sped up, locked down the brakes and took her in sideways right up to the cones and left them all standing. Needless to say, Coach Scull said I was going to fast and he proceeded to chewed me out all the way back to the main building where class given a short restroom break. My driver's ed. teachers do not know I race on Saturday night but I may have given my hand away this week. There has been tell-tell signs all year. For example, I was the only student out of 40 that passed the classroom Driver's Simulation Test back earlier this year and I already have my driver's permit, so I didn't need the class for that. But, my mom made me take the class because I could not make good right hand turns on the road. Up until last year, I had only turned left on the circle tracks. After I pass my final driving exam-which either passes me for the year or fails me for the year, I plan on telling the Coach's about my racing experience, but until then, I guess I better keep the dirt trackin' moves at Eastbay and out of the Driver's Ed car.
What a great night for racing. The track was mushy early in the evening-even the pace truck slipped and slided in the turns but the track came in pretty well. In the heat, I lead 5 of the 6 laps until I starting overdriving and sprint styling the OWM. As a result, I spun and finished 6th in the heat. In the main event, I juggled the Better Leather sponsored #79 from 1st to 3rd, back up to 2nd and then a final finish in 4th on the last lap. Some red car with major hand signals kept tagging and trying to trash me under caution laps so much so that you would think Target sponsored my ride, but hey, it's all good racing free-style at EB.
KEEP CHECKING THE WEBSITE FOR SOME UP and COMING EVENTS IF MY RETRO CAR COMES TOGETHER AS PLANNED.

Ruel Rules @ Eastbay in #79 Pits
Meet my Crew Chief for the November 9 and 10th Races.
Limited Sprint Action was great tonight. In Heat Race #1, I finished 2nd behind Tim George. In the feature, I had the honors of starting shotgun-but hey-FSCA made me do that 18 times last year so I kind of like it back there. I worked my way up to 4th position. Then on lap 11, I found myself facing traffic head on in the middle of turn one when I dove in a little to hot going for the pass. So to the back of the line, but I salvaged a 6th place finish for the night. Ballew was the feature winner for the night. And, Gene Lasker, finished his eventful year with the cha- mpionship honors at Eastbay. Congrats.
In the 360 Sprints-I won heat race #3 and went on to compete in the DASH. I started 3rd and immediately fell back to 6th after Tyler Godwin and I got together on the backstretch and bent my wheel. I started the feature in 6th place and finished 9th for the night. No one could touch Kenny Adams who went on the win the event. Kenny was a crowd favorite in celebrating his victory but doing 360 donuts on the backstrech-very impressive. Fellow Florida Driver-TJ Winegarder sealed up the Rebel Region ASCS Championship tonight. Way to go TJ.
Dakotah is pulling triple duty this weekend. Open Wheel Modified, 360 Sprint and Limited Sprint.
In the Better Leather owned Open Wheel Mod, Dakotah started on the pole position and lead the first 9 laps until a spin in turn 4 put him to the back. He went on to recover and finish a respectable 6th place for the night.
In the 360 Better Leather Sponsored Sprint, he started absolutely last on the 3rd heat race and was only able to finish 6th which bumped him in the B Main. He went on to win the B-Main and was 1 of 4 contenders for the C&B Farms Bonus. Kenny Adams, Gavin Thomas and Matt Tiffany were the other contenders. Starting deep within the 20 car field in the 16 place position, Dakotah presented the right blend of agressiON and finesse to advance up to 8th place for the night. Kenny Adams for the Big Winner of tonight's action. Congratulations go to the Malabar Missile. Dakotah passed 10 cars tonight under green flag conditions tonight should be in a good position going into Night #2 of the Fall Brawl. Not bad for Dakotah's inauguaral ASCS FALL BRAWL. Special Thanks goes out to a great crew, Tom Macaluso, Mark Ruel, Jr., Mark Ruel, Sr, Chris Koudela and A Girl Named George.
CHECK BACK TOMORROW NIGHT FOR LIMITED SPRINT AND 360 ACTION REPORTS.

11/3/07 East Bay Open Wheel Modified
RESULTS: The Open Wheel Mod class at East Bay fielded 21 cars. Dakotah won Heat Race #2. In the Main Event, Dakotah was challenging for the lead position on Lap 9 and spun while racing just a little to tight in turn 1. Another popped tire put him to the pits for service only to discover a broken J Bar which ended the night for Dakotah. Finishing position for Dakotah was 19th.
Since capturing my latest championship, there has not been a week go by that someone has not ask me, "Where are you racing next season?" And I proudly respond-EastBay RaceWay. And the next question is: "Why Eastbay, when you can race anywhere in the South?" Today-The 2007 EastBay Raceway Park Season Opens in Tampa.
I have waited all of my life to compete at EastBay. As long as I can remember, come Saturday night, I could hear the rumble of the race cars while playing in my backyard. I would take my hotwheels and make my own racetrack in the sand or I would slip off on my bike searching for bigger kids just so I could challenge them to race me. Sometimes I would have to pick a fight and get them to chase me just so I could go fast with that sound from Eastbay. I had to win those races but my urge to go fast had to be satisfied at all costs.
Every year, the big debate at my house is-what's next year. The decision was extremely hard this year because a whole lot of options and choices were available. Do we go regional with USCS or ASCA, do we defend at FSCA, the Central Florida Wingless is an unbelievably competitive league, USA Sprints have revived and what about Knoxville Nationals-am I ready? should I run dirt or pavement, big car, sprint car, late models and the list goes on and on. My dream of becoming a professional race car driver hinges on every decision. But in the end, Eastbay has a reputation like no other track in the state.
I believe a real race car driver has to tame that little 1/3 mile bullring that is ever changing week by week and never changing over the test of time. And it is now Dakotah Stephens time to tame Eastbay. I choose Eastbay because if for some reason, my racing career does go to the next level and my family move back to NC or to Indiania, I want my hometown racefans to know, Dakotah Raced Here. My family and I have spent the last 8 years traveling and racing all over the states of Florida and Georgia, and nothing is more fun than riding home after a race replaying every play of the game and sharing in all the new and unique people we have met. The energy is tremendous on that ride home-regardless of the outcome. So, to answer the question as to "Why Eastbay?" -Simply because Eastbay is part of my journey and destiny on the racetrack to adulthood.
"Winning is not about achieving your goal, it's about fufilling your destiny and completing your journey."-Dakotah Stephens 10/30/07

Limited Sprint-15th Started last on the field of 19 after missing the heat race due to an oil leak. Lap 1 yeilded a flash fire and on Lap 4, Dakotah caught the inside berm and flipped on his lid. Whew.
360 Sprint- 9th Heat race-Dakotah started 8th and finished 5th. In Dakotah's first feature race in the new sprint car, he started 13th and finished 9th on the field. He was marching forward when the wing slider malfunctioned and let the wing slide all the way forward on a slick track. Not good.
Dakotah was just thankful to see the checkers after a very eventful night at Eastbay.

but was really significant in busting up the right front wheel and setup.

What a great night at Eastbay. The stands were packed with fans and 5 year old, Wyatt Locklear was my pit guest and official mud scraper for the night. Look out for Wyatt's name in the years to come. He was completely jacked from the thrills and excitement of attending his first Sprint Car race and getting to work on the car. We started 6th in a field of 12 cars and brought home a 5th place finish for the night. Congratulations goes out to my old USA Sprints buddy Tim George on his win for the night. #99 Danny Jones challenged for the win but fell short with a 2nd place finish, followed by Lasker in 3rd and Frank Beck 4th on the field.
In the 360's race, the most spectacular move of the night goes to TJ Winegardner who spun donuts style with at least 4 horizontal turns under the green. TJ went on to stomp his way back to a 3rd place finish behind RJ Johnson and Danny Martin taking top honors.
Next Week I will be in the #79 Better Leather and Auto Trim Open Wheel Modified at Eastbay Raceway Park.

Maybe one day, I can invite The Krewe of Charlotte de Berry to be my VIP Pirate guest when I race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Wouldn't that be ironic.

A Special Thank You goes out to Wild Bill Daughtery, pilot of the #1 machine. Without Bill, Douglas, GA would not have been possible.
Dakotah finishes 11th place after the #1 car Dakotah was piloting caught fire on lap 14.
I took the green flag from the 14th starting position and was able to work my way, under green flag conditions, up to 4th place, driving Bill Daugherty's #1 machine. An oil leak ignited a small flame under the #1, which then became a more significant flame, before I ejected from the car. I have no burns and only a twisted knee on my brake foot. Who needs brakes, right? Ha Ha.
Dakotah threw out Frisbee's for the kids at North Florida Speedway.
My next race is Labor Day Weekend on September 2 at North Florida Speedway in Lake City, FL with the wild and crazy outlaws of the Florida Sprint Car Association. A BIG Thanks has to go out to Team Toucan, TW Parkinson Sprinter #4 who made it possible for me to race last week. And Mark Ruel, Jr- Sprinter #38, Ruel, Sr.-Car Owner #38, and Big Bad Bill #1 were a first rate pit crew who performed better than most professional teams. Those guys had my car put back together in about 20 minutes flat. Beers are on me when I am old enough to buy and Mark and I are old enough to drink. Just Kidding. I appreciate all of your help guys and I am honored to be part of this first rate racing series. And to Otto-that new sprint car is sweet. You make me jealous and I can't wait to see how it runs.
